What Is Pilates?

Pilates is a low-impact, full-body workout system focusing on core strength, flexibility, balance, and posture through controlled, precise movements and mindful breathing.

It was developed by Joseph Pilates between 1914 – 1918 and emphasizes the mind-body connection, using principles like concentration, control, centering, and flow.

It can be done on a mat or with specialized equipment like the Reformer, making it suitable for all fitness levels, from beginners to athletes.

Key principles:

✨️Centering: Focusing on the “powerhouse” (lower ribs, hips, and pelvis).

✨️Control: Executing movements with precision, not force.

✨️Breathing: Using breath to facilitate movement and deepen focus.

✨️Concentration: Being fully present in each movement.

✨️Precision: Moving with accuracy to engage the right muscles.

✨️Flow: Moving smoothly from one exercise to the next.

Benefits

✨️Improves flexibility, balance, and posture.

✨️Enhances body awareness and alignment.

✨️Aids in injury prevention and rehabilitation.
